Primal Scream – Dirty Hits
The Scream have been pumping out tunes since the late ’80s, so it seems time for us to get a best of collection. Greatest Hits are always a good gateway into a band with which you are not too familiar. But Primal Scream seemed to have ignored their first 2 albums totally.
First off, there is not a bad song in sight. Primal Scream have made solid singles for years. But this collection focuses too much on the last two LPs. Eight tracks are from their last two records and there is no VELOCITY GIRL. You get some early gems like the anthem “Loaded” which never gets old. Bobby, the singer, delivers the most impressive vocal on “Higher Than The Sun,” a stunning song. “Rocks,” a big sing-along, is one of their more rocker-type singles. The brilliant instrumental “Shoot Speed/Kill Light” also gets a welcomed spin here. You do get a reworked version of “Some Velvet Morning” from last year’s Evil Heat release. Featuring Kate Moss on a duet with Bobby, the song takes on a more dancer feel to it.
This collection is great to get yourself into the world of Primal Scream. But it lacks the ’80s material that is hard to come by and would have been lovely to hear. Regardless, there are 18 great tunes here waiting for you.
