Acid Casuals
Could you give us a little history of the band?
acid casuals is not a band its a music and art collective based in cardiff, wales, but taking influences globally. started on mountains in north wales in woodland and one strobe light. resident techno dj’s on welsh radio. went to nyc to shoot vid to track- ‘Lexy Funk’, regular guest slots djing at the hippo club, cardiff , wales, uk . released filthy pitch on novamute. released12″ of Wa Da Da on secret agent, released bowl me over 12″ nov 2005, omni- debut LP out Jan 2006.
What are some of your musical influences?
Varied- respecting Ritchie Hawtin/Plastikman, Al Green, Hendrix, Sven Vath, extremely varied…………….so many people involved, so many influences audio and visual………..
Tell us a bit about the new single “Bowl Me Over”.
lyrics penned by Cian (sfa), sung by him and me….it is the only track on the LP with lyrics and written and produced as a conventional pop song, we were aoming for that 50′s instrumentation and riffs (guitar stabs etc) don’t know if we achieved it????! It has been received well on UK radio (radio 1, 2, 6, xfm, virgin, wales, resonance..)and good reviews (4 out of 5 Daily Mirror)
You guys design your own clothing and such. Has this always been a passion of yours?
As mentioned earlier acid casuals is a collective of like minded people with a few of us at the forefront trying to steer the good ship ‘casual’. We have a HQ in Cardiff , Wales where we work all our products from, we will be reviving the fashion side in 2006 to co exist with the music……..see www.acidcasuals.com for designs……it sits nicely alongside our range of acid casuals chutneys…….
How do you feel about downloading of music?
Fine, its a good way for people to hear stuff they may not buy, and gives smaller artists and bands a chance to get noticed…I preferred it when the UK music industry were confused and not sure how to deal with it, like they are about podcasting now….
Who are you guys listening to right now?
Marvin Gaye- Whats Goin On? I pod on shuffle at ACHQ
What would be your greatest fear?
Conventional work.
Any bands we should be on the look out for?
Rubber
What does the future look like?
Casual
