The Concretes – In Colour

“In Colour” is the follow up to the 2004′s very successful self titled album. You can still hear “Say Something” in commercials. The sound isn’t a major depart on this album for the Swedish octet. They still have that loveable lush symphonic sound.

“On The Radio” starts off the album with a nice little piano bit, and with these gorgeous melodies around the flute, it sounds very heavenly. Sadly, the lyrics leave a bit to be desired but they do make it sound so pretty. “Sunbeams” is the perfect song for your warm and hot sunny days. It’s so bright and bubbly. “Chosen One” a natural single, great catchy hook and some hand claps in there as well. It is a true winner. “Your Call” is a debut of Concrete Lisa Milberg and lead Magic Number Romeo Stodart. Together they sound brilliant but the hook is “I call, you hang up” it doesn’t seem fitting. This is a collaboration that should surface again. “As Four” is very interesting track, there is what sounds like a horse galloping quietly in the background and some striking piano arrangements, and a bit of crazy vocal all together. “Song For The Songs” sounds like a Swedish country song.

“In Colour” did have few dull moments. The lyrics were pretty bland in some places. But the production here is very slick and smooth, and as always Victoria Bergsman’s voice, which handles a lot of the duties is remarkable. It’s a very soothing and relaxing album.
