Jennifer O’Connor – Here With Me

jennhere 150x150 Jennifer OConnor Here With Me

Just a smattering of Alanis Morrisette in this lady’s voice, rather mellower and less angsty however, than she.Poppy and melodic, this is a nice easy album to listen to.As always with indie music, there is more under the top layer,so to speak, than first appears, and this album is no exception. With mostly acoustic guitar accompaniment, this collection of songs is a mixed bag, songs of love and extreme loss, honesty and dishonesty…..

The Church And The River is rather moving, sung against organ, drums and electric guitar, somewhat ponderous, but a very direct and simple song.

Always In Your Mind is a favourite of mine,a folky wistful ballad, with some pleasant keyboards sewn in to the song and some harmonica too.A cool song to play in the car,as is Daylight Out,which could be a great single release,if anyone from Jennifer’s record label is reading this?

I can recommend this lovely album, but there is a slightly depressing air somewhere in it.Don’t let that put you off,it is worth a place in the music scene.

There is a powerful personal message in all these songs.
