Wallpaper – On The Chewing Gum Floor

wallpaper album cover 150x150 Wallpaper On The Chewing Gum FloorIs do wop rock n roll making a come back? Wallpaper sure seems to think it blends well with off punk rock. And they could be right. Their current release On The Chewing Gum Floor is reminiscent of so many things from a time before them. If the Stones were to have come 40 years later, this is what they would sound like. Thrilling intensity with sing along chorus’ with a partial punk/pop vibe that fills the room as this vaccination for bad times rolls on.

“Pop Rocket” is a cut that deserves sweater vests, Converse, and a room full of blue and green haired women derobing at their next show. “New California” sounds like a man in a straight jacket belting out classic Tom Jones diddies. And “Auto Bop” screams on like a glittering guitar being smashed to a million defiantly beautiful pieces. For generally simple music, there is a strange psychedelic complexity throughout all of their tracks.

As odd as it sounds, if you hate Wallpaper, you hate America. There is nothing to dislike about these guys. They are a partially smeared version of old American favorites with a stamp of the youth. On The Chewing Gum Floor has the ability to please, and it does. Wallpaper is something that is sure to make at least one person standing before them listening think, “Aww shit, okay I can dig this.” Not a hard moment to imagine with beautiful songs with a new age paradox. Something we should all enjoy.
