Maximo Park – Quicken The Heart
Maximo Park is a five-piece indie rock band hailing from Newcastle, England. Their third debut release “Quicken the Heart” does just that, make us dance with upbeat, synth-infused tunes that are sure to please new and old fans alike. While the songs are fun and easy to listen to, they are quite predictable and lack the exciting quality of their past releases, “A Certain Trigger” (2005) and “Our Earthly Pleasures” (2007). Instead, the band maintains the same sound by following their previous formula for success; and reasonably so, since they have been previously very successful – both “A Certain Trigger” and “Our Earthly Pleasures” have gone double platinum. Although “Quicken the Heart” is sure to be a hit with fans, Maximo Park should step up their game, and quickly, before they fade into the ever-growing list of forgotten indie rock bands. While “Quicken the Heart” is by no means a bad album, Maximo Park must now deliver something new and exciting next time around to remind fans and critics what it is about them that we love. We’ll be waiting.
