The band’s website says they consist of 9 members, but the band is actually the brainchild of Johan Angergård. The band’s sound ranges from 60′s rock to 80′s wave and 90′s pop. Each track is like discovering something new. Over and Over is one of the first albums in many months that has gotten me excited. The album has such variation to it that each time I have listened to the record I get a new experience and find new little nuggets that I missed before.
The opening chords of “You Won” sound like the next great 80s post punk effort with those clunky bass lines. The track does morph into a dark pop song with a lifting chorus. The album amps up the noise on “Seconds Away.” A wall of sound is grabs you from the first strike and it doesn’t let go of its hold. The lyrics are a little inaudible but the track is an experience. The true pop chaps come out on “Always The Same” the irresistible boy/girl harmonies combined with that piercing wall of noise will make you swoon for this track. “Monday To Saturday” takes the same pop approach. The track has a jangly touch to it with the intermittent hand claps and gorgeous dueling vocals. “Dancefloor” is another strong track. Johan’s vocal on this track sounds like he was recording it through a kazoo. “Over and Over” produces that same intense riff in the background that has this impenetrable wall that Johan’s voice seems to be fighting over.
Over and Over was my first taste of The Legends properly. But, after this record I need his other recordings. While, this brand of noisy pop might not be for everyone. This record is was a treat to spend time with. In in a perfect would Over and Over world be a number 1 record.
