The Crystal Method – Divided By Night

crystal method divided by n 150x150 The Crystal Method Divided By NightThe Crystal Method never really struck much gold after their insanely successful debut album “Vegas.” All of their following albums did sell well but none of them ever really struck any memorable chords with me. I almost passed up this record but since I found it on sale the week it came it was a worth a go. (You’ve got to love those Amazon mp3 sales.)

The album is loaded up with guests – from Peter Hook making two appearances to indie goddess Emily Haines and Matisyahu all coming out to help out The Method.

Emily Haines’ track is easily the highlight of this record. After one listen to this track you will be craving a full length album of this from her. Emily has the type of voice that can just transcend a lot of stuff. Seriously, a dance record would be wicked.

The Matisyahu collaboration was another one that will catch your attention. It is another that just feels natural right from the start. The track does feel like it is something that we heard back in 2002 but it was still a fun listen. “Slipstream” featuring Grandaddy’s Jason Lytle did not sound like him during the first listen. I thought that it was someone else!

At times, I did enjoy the album, but mainly for the nostalgic reasons. Longtime fans of the band will not be disappointed but it does little to excite. I would just grab the Emily Haines, Jason Lytle and Meiko tracks; the other stuff you could live without.
