This summer seems to be the season of great soundtracks. “Away We Go” is the new film from Director Sam Mendes and stars John Krasinski and Maya Rudolph. The film follows the story of a couple who are expecting their first child as they travel around the U.S. in order to find a perfect place to start their family. The album contains mostly music from singer Alexi Murdoch with a few other classic tracks sprinkled in the mix as well.
Alexi’s “All My Days” opens up the record and if it sounds familiar it’s probably because you have heard it featured a few times already in film and television. It feels right to start off the soundtrack with this song which sounds to me like a hopeful piece of music to me. The track flows into “Blue Mind” rather smoothly. The soundtrack does feature a few classic songs like George Harrison’s “What Is Life?” and The Stranglers’ “Golden Brown.” The most notable tracks are Bob Dylan’s “Meet Me In The Morning” and The Velvet Underground’s “Oh Sweet Nothin’.”
The mix of the classics with Alexi Murdochs sweet and soaring lullabies make the soundtrack a great listen. It really makes me really want to see this movie.
