Review: Ingrid Michaelson – Maybe

Up and rising folk spirited, New York based starlet Ingrid Michaelson, has every reason to feel buoyant after the welcomed, but surprising stateside success of her independently released 4th album ‘Everybody’. In ‘Maybe’, Michaelson seems to choose the right single to make a similar, possibly bigger impact in the UK. It features dawdling vocals that are delivered with clarity and surety, helping the song ooze independence and possess a comforting streak.
A well chosen guitar trickle provides a neat contrast to the bounding accompaniment that punctuates the brisk and bold chorus. It’s often ill-advised to draw parallels, but Michaelson does seem to have that Norah Jones veined ability to appear serious, whilst at the same time, coming across as settled and strangely comforting.
