Review: Yarn Owl – Tiny Dots

yarn owl 150x150 Review: Yarn Owl Tiny DotsA group like Yarn Owl comes along every once in a great while. They have a branding that is not unusual in the world of indie pop. With hollow voices and messages sent from beyond Sartre’s wet dreams, these guys bring forth the obscurity in the purest of fluorescent light ever thought imaginable. Whether they are mixing power pop with anti folk conspiracies, they are always entertaining. And that in itself is saying alot more than many of the Pacific Northwest bands out there dying to survive.

Yarn Owl’s latest record Tiny Dots is a collection of genuinely well crafted tunes that every hipster, as well as every Twlight loving teenage queen, can have to love and to hold all through the night. Tracks like “Yarn Blues” and “Stay in Tune With the Moon” are sure to bring out all those emotions you once felt as you were laying in your twin bed dreaming of a life where everything made sense, and the world was not out to drag you by the collar through an existence of eternal sadness. Yes, this is one of the those albums. The kind where you feel wonderful after one listening, or absolutely after a hundred. This, my friends, is what makes a great album.

If the direct message of Yarn Owls comes off as unrepresentative to your nature; consider yourself either (a) lucky or (b) sad. Their music represents the real tone of life. To be a general optimist you have to recognize despair. But, to be a general pessimist, it’s not necessary to see a rainbow in everything that sparkles. A band like this existences to make us see the truth in whatever it is that we hold to be self evident and oh so important. They make pure unadulterated indie pop music to commit adultery, love, and eternal infliction to. So few artists can do this while still developing a beautiful sound that can appeal to the mass audiences of the world. We need more groups likes this to bless our course of actions.
