Review: Feral Children – Brand New Blood
Prepare yourself for a whole new light of notion and pondering with Feral Children’s sophomore release Brand New Blood. This Seattle based quintet moves their genuine and original hysterics in a much calmer matter than in their previous efforts. But, like Fitzgerald in his later years, it was in these calm efforts that you truly began to understand the genius. What doesn’t change from their latest work is the feeling that these guys are doing exactly what it is they feel they should be doing – continue to make the finest tranquility riddled indie rock they know.
The hauntingly sweet vocals that Jeff Keenan spews out during “On A Frozen Beach” defines the nature and character of Feral Children. Their Northwest attitude is alive and present, as well as a necessity to develop pop oriented hooks using more obscure instruments than a street side reggae act. The more simple side of Brand New Blood can be found on “Kid Origami” or “Group Home”. And for the falling from the midnight lighthouse sort of effects, drop yourself into the bit faster paced “Conveyer”.
Feral Children have built a fan base around their “don’t give a shit, just live” attitude and style of indie rock. They have become an inspiration for those with the talent and drive to become rock stars in their own right. Brand New Blood brings their unrestrained attitude back to the listeners with a calm sense of urgency. New fans and the loyal followers alike are sure to find this album the delight your sadden heart has always been searching for amongst the debris of today’s soiled and scared world of independent spirited music.
