Review: The Drums – The Drums

thedrums1 150x150 Review: The Drums The DrumsThis is the debut album from Brooklyn band(4 members)The Drums, who formed in late 2008.

This album has a strong Beach Boys/Shangri Las influence, but it is very much 2010.

The songs on it are rather samey. “Best Friend” is the single and first track on the album, possibly being the best.

The Drums were shortlisted in December 2009 as one of the 15 music acts for the BBC Sound of 2010.They achieved No 5 on this list on 4 Jan 2010.

In the NME they were named No 1 in that magazine’s Tips For 2010.

In February 2010, The Drums played in the 2010 NME Awards Tour, with The Maccabees, Bombay Bicycle Club and The Big Pink.

They supported Florence And The Machine in May 2010 on her Cosmic Love Tour, and will provide further support to Kings of Leon in Hyde Park, alongside other bands The Features, The Black Keys and The Whigs.

If your musical taste runs to the 21st Century wall-of-sound effects in their songs, hormonally -charged lyrics and mournful refrains, then you will love this album.

The NME have awarded it 8/10. So that can’t be bad.
