Review: Starfucker – B-Sides

This is leftfield music with a fizz. Three piece band Starfucker are: Josh Hodges,Ryan Bjornstad and Shawn Glassford.Josh Hodges,formerly of Sexton Blake,lived in NYC for four years and released two Sexton Blake records with the help of Ryan Bjornstad,including an album of 80s covers called “Plays The Hits.” Hodges recruited Shawn Glassford and thus formed Starfucker in 2007.The band’s name is not to be confused with Belgian girl group Starfucker.Hodges’ SF changed their name to Pyramidd but that wasn’t well received,so changed it back to Starfucker and that latter name remains. This band are lively onstage.They feature dual drumming,instrument swapping and stage diving,plus some eye catching costumes.In 2008-9,the band recorded five B sides,which feature on this EP,which is on their second label, Badman Records.Particularly good is “Burnin Up” (cover of the Madonna song) and “Boy Toy”, with its laid back,chunky,funky feel… Perfect EP to chill out to.
