Review: Stephen Dale Petit – Let There Be More Light
The usually mod-skirting, blues tinkerer Stephen Dale Petit seeks to slow things down and add a hint of gospel to his make-up for ‘Let There Be More Light’. Possibly seeking show that his latest album, ‘The Crave’ isn’t at all derivative and one dimensional. Heart-wrenching vocals that project maudlin and life weary lyrics, preceding a positive and a little uplifting chorus, comes across as trite in formula and forced in approach. The careering gospel backing seems only to distract rather than illuminate.
Petit seems to have lost a little focus, but this prolific song crafter will and should be back with better.
I think this tune is awesome! I keep singing it to myself at work! Love the new album.
