Swallows is a indie band from Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota. Swallows is fronted by multi-instrumentalists Jeff Crandall (Thinland, Mellow Drunk) and Tyson Allison (The Sleeper Pins, Gliss). Cellist and composer Aaron Kerr. “Songs For Strippers and Other Professions” is also one of the only albums I have ever seen say this “a collection of inspirational songs honoring strippers and burlesque dancers everywhere.” The record is eleven tracks of vintage rock and roll that will tear you up. “Not Your Kind Of Man” dirty things up with some slimly little riffs and plenty of cowbell. The lyrics go right a long the lines of the album with “a put up with a lot of bullshit to see that little bush.” “The Craven King” musically does a lot of interesting things with the use of a piano but the lyrics are just a little to over the top. “Come To Me” is the dark and seductive ballad and I think they even use a cash register sound in this song. “Days Like This” shows the bands bluesy side with a very deep and rustic track. “Songs For Strippers…” even when the subject matter might be a little to in your face for some is still a solid rock record. The band did deliver on what they said by “honoring strippers.”

Recent addition to the Drowned In Sound label, this four piece from Uppsala. Sweden has created a remarkable album full of downright gorgeous tunes. Yes, they are named after a Smashing Pumpkins song. Opener “From Across The Sea” just one of those songs you almost wish never end. It is just so sweeping, majestic and very encompassing. “Swimming Eyes” features some very some rather whispery vocals from Kristofer J?n and again another song that musically just swallows you up. “Winter Nights” features some incredible use of horns and just an 11 minute monster of a track. “Marks” is one of my favorites here, it’s a interesting listen and there use of banjos here really gives an interesting dimension to the track.

“Choose A Bright Morning” is not a groundbreaking album, but on many moments it shines. The songs are captivating listens and not many bands use banjos. For fans of Sigur Ros, Broken Social Scene this is an album you will want to pick up.
