The Prodigy – Invaders Must Die
‘Invaders Must Die’ is one of the more anticipated albums of the early part of this new year. Since, it was announced late last year that the band will be reuniting we have all been waiting. The two songs that have been able to hear so far have been hit and miss with me. ‘Invaders Must Die’ the first single was a massive tune but second single “Omen” was all to by the numbers for me.
After, the largely disappointing but still likable “Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned’ Laim Howlett got the original band back together for this affair. If anything the record sounds closer to “Jilted Generation’ than ‘Fat Of The Land.’
The album starts off with the declaration of “We Are The Prodigy” on the title track and previous single. The song will be monumental live and I can’t wait to hear it in that setting. “Omen” is a track that works much better in the flow of the album. The album really gets going on the third track “Thunder.” The track contains just a sampled reggae vocal and a hard, fast and mega tune. It is really what the Prodigy do best.
“Take Me To The Hospital” is more like a flashback to the bands past material and almost feels like a mashup record at times. The intro to “Warriors Dance” sounds like the start of some erotic film. But, then slowly and it gets turned up and is out to destroy your speakers.
There are a few tracks I think we could do without. “Words On Fire” is something that would have been better left. It is full of such fury that frankly after listening I am a little worn out. There is a lot of songs also that I could easily see being placed in films and ads this year as well. “Invaders Must Die” is a record from the first to the last moment goes right after you and doesn’t stop. The record shows that the band still have some fight left in them.
