Los Campesinos! – We Are Beautiful, We Are Doomed

losdoomed 200 150x150 Los Campesinos! We Are Beautiful, We Are Doomed

Los Campesinos! are a seven piece indie pop band from Cardiff, Wales that formed just two years ago at Cardiff University. The band’s name translates to “the farmers” or “the peasants” in Spanish. They released their debut album, titled “Hold On, Youngster…” in February 2008 and are set to release their sophomore album, “We Are Beautiful, We Are Doomed” on October 27. The band is signed to Canadian label Arts & Crafts, along with artists like Feist, The Stills, and Broken Social Scene. They got their big break opening for Broken Social Scene in August 2006, and since then they have continued to grow in popularity, particularly in the Canadian indie music scene.

Equipped with a sound that resembles indie veterans Rilo Kiley, combined with reggae-pop band Bedouin Soundclash, Los Campesinos! are sure to see enormous success with “We Are Beautiful, We Are Doomed”. With upbeat music and clever lyrics, songs like “Ways to Make It through the Wall” and “Miserabilia” have great potential to cause quite a stir in the indie pop scene.

Los Campesinos! – My Year In Lists

loscamp2 150x150 Los Campesinos! My Year In Lists Over here at HQ we have all been split on Los Campesinos! I for one I adore them but there has been some who feel to be nice are sub par. “My Year In Lists” is the first single after the release of the bands debut album and its interesting move picking the song that is not even two minutes long. The natural choice would have been “Sweet Dreams Sweet Cheeks” but, “My Year In Lists” does provide enough to peak a few peoples interest. The song starts off with the one of the strangest lyrics “Send me stationary to make me horny So I always write you letters in multicolor Decorating envelopes for foreplay…: Looking at it on paper I have no idea what they are talking about. Perhaps, it is about a quarrel between two young lovers as the layout of the song suggests. It sounds like the two vocalists are in battle all the time. It is short and bubbly song that just gets right to the point and it is hard to not enjoy.

Los Campesinos! – Death To Los Campesinos

deathtoloscamp 150x150 Los Campesinos! Death To Los CampesinosThere was always something charming about Los Campesinos. They are a Welsh band whose name is a Spanish word for farmers. They are always a seven piece band which, you hardly ever find in a indie-pop type sound. Aleksandra really steals the show and really steps up here more than she has in previous singles from the band. Her vocal has to be one of the most pleasing aspects of this song. She is the perfect compliment to Gareth who at times sounds like he is a little over the top at times. The song has this amazing playful energy throughout it. I am not sure what they are on about it seems that he is sorry for stealing. Then in the hook we get this line “I’m just swimming in copper to smell and pretend like a robot.” Your guess is as good as mine about that one. Musically, the song is rather simple with a bass heavy verse and a guitar driven hook it is nothing to crazy. The combination of all these parts make for one of the most fun you will have in a song. It meets all the requirements for an amazing pop song and it is just weird enough to have some massive crossover potential This is Los Campesinos track that they need to force down our throats.
