Simian Mobile Disco – Clocks EP

clockssmd 150x150 Simian Mobile Disco Clocks EP Following on the success of last years debut album ‘Attack Decay Sustain,’ SMD are returning with a brand new EP. These four songs are all new and are not on the bands debut album and it is entirely instrumental. No guest vocals or anything of that stuff to get in the way. The bands debut album was a great record and I still like to throw in “Hot Dog” from time to time. “Clocks” is the first song on the plate and it is just craving for a vocalist. Most of the time they just get in the way. But, “Clocks” has this naughty even dirty disco sound to it and someone with a little pop could turn this beat into a knock out tune. It sounds like something the band ‘The Whip’ would come up with. “Simple” sounds like a post-post modern dance tune in the future with its with its very mechanical outside but still tender inside. “3 Pin Din” is pretty much a dance song for space. The beat is dense and electromagnetic at times. Also, it is a bit big beat and funky all together as well. I just keep picturing a spaceman dancing. “State of Things” is the epic closer that sounds very futuristic. Its spaced out and chill out beats make this a very cool closer. The new EP is not essential stuff like their debut would be considered but it is still a four great sounding tracks and with the band experimenting and tinkering and we all reap the benefits.
