Snow Patrol – Take Back The City

takeback3 200 150x150 Snow Patrol Take Back The City

I will admit it I was into Snow Patrol before they got big and stepped aside when they charmed the world. I still remember that first list of “When It’s All Over We Still Have To Clear Up” and then a few years later “Run” happened. The band return with their fifth studio album “A Hundred Million Suns” and the first single “Take Back The City.” The first single is what you would expect from the band it is familiar and safe. It is an “uptempo” one so expect the ballad to hit at around the third release. The song starts off with a slight acoustic strum as the song slowly starts to build to it the massive hook. A few woahs get thrown in the mix and then the song cranks it up for the chorus and you can just see Gary Lightbody with a very awkward face as he sings the hook. The band said that they wrote this record from “a perspective of a relationship that is working” But, isn’t the depressed Snow Patrol a better Snow Patrol. The track is harmless and safe but will do the job the first single is supposed to.

Snow Patrol – Set The Fire To The Third Bar

“Eyes Open” was a bit of a let down for me. But, you got to give credit were it is due and the boys got it right with this song. “Set The Fire To The Third Bar” features Martha Wainwright on vocals. If any are unfamiliar with Martha she is the sister of Rufus. But what makes this song work so well is the vocal interplay of Martha and Gary. They could not of found a better choice than Martha as her voice just fits in with Gary’s so well. It sounds natural its a perfect fit. Now we need to is get more songs like this on on the next record boys. It is songs like this which, make singles still relevant. Grab the single but forget the album.
