Black Rebel Motorcycle Club – The Effects of 333

333 cover2 150x150 Black Rebel Motorcycle Club – The Effects of 333Last week, BRMC announced on their website that they were going to release their fifth studio album free of any record company and that it was going to be released on their own label “Abstract Dragon.” The album is only available via digital download. The real surprise is that the record is entirely instrumental. This took a lot of time to get used to this new sound. As this was in the vain of being more metallic and abrasive record than say just a post rock record.

The record starts off with “The Effects of 333” a lot of swirling noises and an ethereal sounds that feels like you are outside on a windy day. It leads in very smoothly to “Still No Answer” which, is one long droning guitar on what seems like an endless loop. One of the more interesting tracks of the set would have to be “A Twisted State.” It is one of the more traditional songs here if any of them can be called traditional. The track is mostly an acoustic guitar with a few faint effects flickering in the background. It comes out as a rather beautiful little piece and a treat for the album.

If you are willing to get your experimental shoes on and go for a ride with this album it is an interesting journey. It seems like the band just went in and just messed around in the studio without any pressures or restrictions. It is recommended to give it a go but make sure you go into the record with the right frame of mind.
