Tobacco – Maniac Meat

maniacmeat 450pa 150x150 Tobacco Maniac MeatUnless you’re like me, you’ve probably heard Black Moth Super Rainbow, who (up until now) I’ve avoided; not because of their music, but more because I’m convinced that anything called Black Moth Super Rainbow has to be Anime.  It turns out that they are, in fact, a band.

Their frontman goes by the name Tobacco, which said to be a Redneck Zombies reference.  That’s pretty cool.  He’s also got a new album coming out which is pretty cool.

His solo stuff is quite a bit different from BMSR.  It’s definitely not as pretty.  Its more beat-driven.  The synth itself is more synthy as opposed to sounding like real instruments.  I actually like it better.  It’s abrasive.  I like abrasive.

Beck’s on a couple of the tracks.  I could do without Beck.  Not just on this album, but in general.  But that’s just me.  Overall, its a pretty good album.  It’s being released through Anticon on May 25th.

The Hood Internet – The Hood Internet vs Tobacco & Aesop Rock

hood vs tobacco aesop 150x150 The Hood Internet The Hood Internet vs Tobacco & Aesop Rock The latest creation by The Hood Internet is the mixing of Tobacco and Aesop Rock and a few other guests for one of the most enjoyable compilations out there. Tobacco is a member of Black Moth Super Rainbow and he brought in Aesop to guest on a song on the album and this inspired The Hood Internet to expand that idea. The track that really stands out of this collection is “Hairy Candy at 11:35 (feat. Mr. Lif).” Tobacco provides the background for the track and it is this psychedelic and really tripp material that you just don’t often heard paired with hip/hop. Mr. Lif bouncing off this trippy and freaky beat is really fascinating stuff. “Dark Pink Goo (feat. Rob Sonic)” is another track on this record that finds a really unlikely combination. The music from Tobacco is very dark and abstract that is very sparse and minimal. The combination of this slick deliver makes this track another top notch track. The Hood Internet have been craftsman at the genre splicing but one day I would love to hear an original from the band. But, if not just keep these coming they are just as good. Tobacco – Street Trash

tobac 150x150 Tobacco – Street Trash
Tobacco is a member of the band Black Moth Super Rainbow and is set to release his first solo record “Fucked Up Friends” later on this year. The first song released from the album is the insane “Street Trash.” The song is just a short taste as to what the album is about and Tobacco. The track is simple and it is mainly this one waved beat with a heavily filtered vocal saying ‘na-na-nah” over and over again. The track is very easy to get lost in. Then when the track just suddenly ends you just crave another round of it. “Street Trash” is a highly addictive track so be careful.
